Teklife titan DJ Earl and producer extraordinaire Nick Hook have joined forces for 50 Backwoods, an album that combines Earl's electronic footwork sensibility with Hook's digital and analog synth wizardry. The album was released on December 8th 2017 on Fool's Gold Records.
Descendants and kindred spirits of the late DJ Rashad, Hook and Earl only started working together this year. Nick says of their relationship and the project, "we always had a vibe, but after Rashad passed we ended up getting closer. Carrying on Rashad's legacy is a part of what we do everyday. Earl had played me a ton of new demos, him singing on stuff for the first time, it was just really inspiring. Somewhere in that time we said, we should try and go on tour, and make a record for the tour. We had no plan, except enjoy every second of it. Wiki came thru, Melo-X came thru and we met the illest mc from Jamaica named Jacks. Oh yeah and we smoked 50 backwoods in a week."
Recorded over one week in Brooklyn, the genre-bending project draws from footwork, dancehall, hip-hop and more to create a free-spirited album filled with deep visceral and experimental sound.
