For over 15 years, Michail Stangl aka Opium Hum has been a vital node in the global electronic music underground.

Best known as the former face and lead programmer of Boiler Room and as curator of Berlin's legendary CTM Festival, Stangl's work has consistently mapped the bleeding edges of contemporary club culture.

As Opium Hum, his DJ sets move fluidly between bass-heavy club constructions, off-kilter rave mutations, acidy steppers, industrialised grime and driving techno, an eclectic but never scattershot approach shaped by an insatiable appetite for the emergent forms constantly bubbling up from the fringes of global rave culture.

He has performed in over 40 countries, from China, Pakistan and Vietnam to Georgia, Peru and Uganda, ran the Leisure System and ≠ (not equal) residencies at Berghain and currently holds a residency at São Paulo's notorious Vampire Haus warehouse series and the David Lynch designed Club Silencio in Paris. He also runs Hyper Real, an online community and traveling event series with regular events at Prague's Fuchs2, Open Ground, RSO, and Tbilisi's Bassiani, plus a dedicated stage at this year's Outlook Festival.

Whether as a curator or behind the decks, he remains single-mindedly committed to championing the radical, the overlooked and the yet-to-be-defined in electronic music.
