On 03/09/2025, plus44Kaligula will release their highly anticipated debut EP DOUBLE BLIND on Before Babel Records. Today, plus44Kaligula shares the first song off this EP, HOME —a single and fragmentary signal—quietly tracing the outline of what’s to come.
For those who now recognise themselves in plus44Kaligula, Statham's long awaited release will be like opening a well established chat thread; full of philosophical musings and anthropological anecdotes about where we come from, the simplification of historical context in societal discourse, the fact this isn't new, and whether we are still doomed to repeat ourselves, even with the advent of AI.
Raised between the rock and hard place of British icons David Bowie and Annie Lennox, and on screen legends such as Daniel Day Lewis, plus44Kaligulas creation is a deadpan, surrealist landscape where ego and identity collapse evoking scenes of Rene Magritte and Yorgos Lanthimos - crafting a modern myth for fractured times.
HOME:
On "HOME", Statham says "I offer a dirge for us caught trapped by the machinery of unregulated Capitalism— the current name for an ancient morbid beast through time which actively prevents solidarity and change. We are not new, but one of myriad iterations of the same pyramid cloaked in 'Progress'. We wander confused, asking not whether AI might save us, but whether we deserve saving at all. The video for "Home" unfolds as parable: Lilith, exiled and unrepentant, turns her gaze backward—not in longing, but with a grim sense of duty—to retrieve Eve from paradise lost. Yet what if Eve, content in her chains, 'refuses liberation'? To quote Fisher and Žižek, "It's easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.”
PATRIOT: On the song, “Patriot”, Statham says, “Patriot is about holding our beliefs close without inspection. A song for Eve, it does not condemn, but mourns: for the worlds that die each time we turn our face away.”
HOLD TIGHT: "“Hold Tight” is a technically nimble journey song full of furious hope, about finding my voice and trying to lead not from the paralysing perfectionism many of us suffer, amped up in this surveillance age, but from trust, wonder, and adventure - I am The Fool: I step into the unknown. Come with me - reckon we'll have a laugh." says Statham.
Described by CTM Festival as “a kaleidoscope of profound alienated beauty,” plus44Kaligula has build a reputation for thrilling live performances, working closely with artistic partner, stage designer Emmanuel Biard (Evian Christ, Snow Strippers, Aisha Devi, Koreless). This collaboration transforms stage into ritual, fusing sound and light into an experience that Beats Per Minute at Rewire called “a sense tingling, ballistic” eruption, attracting celebrity fans including Cillian Murphy. Having established her monthly 'Just A Thought, with +44K' visual radio show hosted exclusively on instagram, this summer Statham brings the show to NTS. Also one of Manchester Collective Experimenta 2025 composers in residency, Statham's work engages with class, education, and access to opportunity networks — using music as a metaphor for sociolinguistics, and a tool for emancipation. plus44Kaligula requires those that engage to look beyond the wall and refocus.
Double Blind was recorded and produced by Cally Statham with contributions from legendary music producer, John Merchant (Michael Jackson, Mika, Barbara Striesand, Celine Dion) and mixing & mastering magician Chris Pawlusek (Evian Christ, Bladee, Genesys, Baby Pantera, HUSSY).
